Go-Gos’ Jane Wiedlin Pays Tribute to Big Gay Ice Cream!

Little mention in the SF Weekly:

We recently told you about a Tranny Smackdown sundae that will be created for one fleeting day when locals Humphry Slocombe will be visited by Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff of New York’s Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, and that former Go-Gos guitarist and Mission resident Jane Wiedlin would be there to mark the occasion. That last detail seemed more random to us than the use of shortbread as “tranny padding” on a sundae until Quint explained to us that he and Wiedlin have been longtime friends, and that his first concert back in the day was a Go-Gos show.

So enamored is Wiedlin with Quint and Petroff’s mobile venture that she agreed to write them a theme song. “Big Gay Ice Cream” will be released to iTunes that day and essentially premiered at the party (though she technically won’t be singing it live), which also happens to be Quint’s birthday.

“This is the craziest birthday that I’ll ever have,” he said. “I decided that, after this, I think I’m just going to say that I’m 88 now. And when I turn 89 legitimately, then I’ll have another birthday party. But there’s no reason to even try and do it after this!”

Experience the Tranny Smackdown and more on Sun., Aug. 22, at 7 p.m.
